Fifteen years ago, the tv animation world was changed forever when a little show about a sailor boy with an adventurous spirit premiered on CN. Although it’s run was short, the series led to a renaissance of animated shows, such as Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Regular Show, and more. So thanks, Flapjack, for being the godfather of 2010s animation.

Elliott never goes out when it’s raining, but farmers are built different and can soak as long as they please. For Deva, rainy days mean some rest from her 24/7 farming job!

Until she goes to the mines that is.

🌟Bonus!🌟

Rainy days at the farm mean a well-deserved rest from watering! (Also a first appearance for her cat!)

🦈 Sharks? Jawesome. Parthenogenesis? Even more fin-tastic than it’s hard to pronounce.

A leopard shark at the Kelp Forest exhibit swims towards the camera from the left side of the image to the right. The shark’s sharp fins, gills, and distinct leopard skin and white underbelly take focus at the center of the image. Blades of giant kelp sway in brown and golden colors behind the shark and over a blue backdrop.ALT

Let’s talk about the birds and the bees. Er, the sharks and the seas. Some species of sharks (and fish, invertebrates, reptiles, and birds!), can reproduce asexually—no mate required. Females use extra genetic materials to fertilize eggs and grow baby sharks completely on their own. How’s that for a Shark Week fact?

Animated image of a leopard shark at the Kelp Forest Exhibit swimming from the left side of the screen towards the right while slightly turning its body in horizontal motion. As the shark swims to the right, it gets farther away from us, heading towards a wall of kelp.ALT

Imagine diving in the chilly waters of Monterey Bay to experience the textures of underwater plants and animals.

What do you think touching smooth, wavy grooves (new band name?) of a blade of kelp feels like?

Animated image of a diver's view of swimming through the Monterey Bay kelp forest. Blades of kelp brush towards us on the left hand side of the screen as more strings of kelp swing in the background amidst the greenish blue ocean waters.ALT

Or the rough and tough exterior of an abalone shell?

A diver's view of the Aquarium's Great Tide Pool illustrates an array of red seaweed, corals, and animals decorating the rocks in a palette of colors. Closest to us rests a red abalone, standing out from the crowd with its rough brownish gray shell.ALT

How about the teeny pointed toes of a hermit crab as they tickle the palm of your hand?

Animated image of a hermit crab crawling somewhat uphill towards the right of the frame, on a path covered with white and light gray stones. The crab is wearing a shell that has an almost perfect cone shape with an orange tip that slowly fades into black at the bottom of the shell.ALT

Anyone can have these magical experiences at the Aquarium’s touch pools, no diving experience necessary! What would you explore at our touch pools?

A child with an ear to ear smile and long black hair and bangs that cover her eyebrows stands by the Aquarium touch pool. She is enthusiastically holding up a piece of green seaweed with her left hand while holding her right hand bended slightly closer to her chest.ALT

Limulidae or Horseshoe Crabs

Horseshoe Crabs have existed for hundreds of millions of years, and have changed very little since their bodies are a very efficient armor! And if you’re worried that they will get stuck if they land on their backs, they can use their long tails to right themselves up! If you do see an overturned horseshoe crab and want to set it right- don’t pick it up by the tale. Pick it up on the sides of its shells.
